Wattcher and solar panels

The Wattcher datalogger is ultimately usefull to monitor both the energy consumption of your house and the power generation by your solar panels. You are able to tune your power usage in relation to the power produced.

Instantly see the yield on the display

When using the Wattcher display set the sender and sensor can be placed directly on to a brutoproduction meter for solar panels. The current yield is directly visible, as well as the daily yield and average daily yield over time. \

When you generate your own energy you have no more insight into the real power used based on the main power meter. When you place an additional sensor on a bruto production meter belonging to the PV system, you'll see in Wattcher Online how much energy you generate and how much energy you actually consume .

So it is easy to detect unnecessary energy and you better tune the generated energy. An additional advantage is that the investment in the PV system will recoup more quickly.

Easy to install

The Wattcher datalogger set is easy and quick to install. Connect the datalogger to a free port of your modemaand synchronise with the Wattcher senders. You can connect 6 senders in total to the datalogger, in order to manage all the main energy flows in your home

Extra dinrail meter

Often a separate group is used in the fuse box for delivery through the solar panels. On this group an extra dinrail meter can be placed.

The Wattcher sender & dinrailsensor connects to the pulse output of the dinrail meter. This pulse output or pulse count automatically delivers pulses at a certain amount of energy that is measured.

Upon delivery of the sender and dinrail sensor you will receive a quick guide how it should be connected to the dinrail meter. For an example installation see the energy neutral house in Zeist.

Instead of in the meter closet, the solar panels can be measured in the attic, because the sender can send data over several floors.

 

Net consumption calculated by correction main meter

Many digital pulse meters have a central pulse LED that flashes when consumed but also when power is produced. It is therefore not clear what the registration direction of the current is. Mechanical meters with turning wheel also run backwards, and the Wattcher sensor registers it as a pulse. In both cases there is a desired correction of the measured consumption of the main meter. On the graph page in Wattcher Online you can set the energy type for each sensor. So you can adjust if the sensor is intended for consumption or production. The sensor that sits on the main meter will be corrected with sensor 2 or 3 where power production is located.

 

Roof with solar panels and multiple dwellings

In total 6 sensors can be coupled to the datalogger. In the case of a joint house with a central solar system on the roof, this can be operated by 1 datalogger. For example, one sender and sensor can be used for the solar panels, and the other five sensors for the dwellings.

Sensors can also be assigned to specific major power consumers, such as the lift system, electric car or air cooling installation. Then these will be separately monitored on their performance.
